The Mottola Group Gives Back
September 21, 2021Supporting and giving back to the communities in which we serve has always been at the heart of what we do. The Mottola Group Gives Back initiative stemmed from the members of our team’s involvement in various organizations both regional and national. Below are just a few of the many organizations our team members are involved with in the Delaware community.
Ronald McDonald House of Delaware
The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware provides a safe, affordable “home-away-from-home” to families of hospitalized children being treated at a nearby hospital. They also operate three “family rooms” within the pediatric units at Christiana Care and Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children which provide a quiet space away from the child’s hospital bedside. Our Principal, Stephen Mottola, has served as the board’s Vice President for over three years, and various other team members volunteer for the organization and participate in their events. One of the newest fundraising events this charity holds is Wine, Women, and Shoes; an evening of wine tasting, designer shopping, delicious bites, entertainment and more where items are available for purchase and through auctions, with all proceeds benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware. In addition to this incredible event, members of our team volunteer to prepare and serve dinner to residents at least once a year.
Read Aloud Delaware was established to ensure that each preschool child in Delaware is regularly read to one-on-one. Research has shown that children who are read to from an early age have bigger brains, larger vocabularies, and greater knowledge of the world around them. This organization sends volunteers to childcare, Head Start, and kindergarten centers which read to over 6,000 children last year alone. Our team member Lynn Kuttruff understands the importance of this program and spent over 20 years serving as both a member and chairperson of their board.
Established in 2013, The Guilty Girls Giving Group is composed of local women committed to hosting philanthropic events to raise money for the local communities. For several years, our group has sponsored the VIP hour of their staple event: The Guilty Girls Warehouse Sale, where vendors offer merchandise to attendees for purchase at a discounted price specially set for this event, and give back a portion of their proceeds to the fund. Each year, the foundation selects a different local organization to donate the proceeds to. Past charities involve Prevent Child Abuse Delaware, Make A Wish Delaware, and Delaware Boots on the Ground.
While our principal, Stephen, previously sat on the board of Habitat for Humanity Delaware for over 7 years, many of our team members have volunteered their time with this incredible organization over the years. Habitat for Humanity not only provides a family a place to live, but also financial stability. Habitat homeowners pay an affordable mortgage, receive financial education and help build their homes alongside volunteers. This incredible organization has helped hundreds of families across the state of Delaware, and they’re just getting started.
The Anthony Penna Charitable Fund was established by the Penna Family to honor Anthony’s passion for music by helping offset the costs and fees associated with participation in band, choir, and theatre. This multifaceted organization offers grants, a musical instrument donation program, a gift of life donor program, and the Schulman Study Group Academic Scholarship Award. Each aspect of this foundation is geared towards helping set students up for success by providing them with the tools necessary to keep the music alive. Our team member Pete Duncan served as Anthony’s lacrosse coach and now hosts a game dedicated to Anthony and the Fund each year where each of the players wear special jerseys dedicated to Anthony.
